After Tyco released the Typhoon in the early 90s, Nikko soon followed suit with its own hovercraft, the Pirate. Unlike the Typhoon, it featured a single large fan for propulsion, and could be steered by two rudders. It could also float in water when its elevation fan was turned off. The only downside was that the Pirate was not very sturdy. Its outer hull was made from thin plastic, and its internal chassis was largely styrofoam.
