In the late 80's Nikko released a radio controlled submarine called the Sea Explorer. It originally sold for $199.99 at Toys R Us.
The sub was about 18" long and was made of yellow and white plastic. There was a clear dome on the front that could detach to access the battery compartment. I believe that it ran on 4 AA and 6 C batteries. The tranmitter needs an additional 6 AA batteries.
Before using the sub you needed to adjust metal weights at the bottom so that it would just barely float to the surface. To dive, the sub had a propeller mounted on the bottom of the sub that would pull it down. Its diving was rather limited, as it needed to keep its antenna above water to receive a signal.
Nikko later rereleased the sub as the Sea Star, Shark Hunter, and Sea Wolf.
