For more than a decade the Virtual Toy Chest has been helping action figure fans to identify their toys. We are proud to introduce our latest innovation: V.E.R.N., the Visual Equivalence Recognition Network. V.E.R.N. is an intelligent agent that is capable of automatic toy recognition, and can identify an action figure from a photograph. Simply upload your pic in .jpg format and put V.E.R.N. to work. Right now the program is in its initial beta stage. It can identify figures from the following toy series:
  • Batman by Toy Biz
  • Bucky O'Hare
  • Captain Planet
  • D.C. Comics by Toy Biz
  • Fantastic Four by Toy Biz 1995
  • Flash Gordon by Mattel
  • Galaxy Rangers
  • Iron Man by Toy Biz 1995
  • Knight Rider by Kenner
  • Laser Wars
  • Pirates of Dark Water
  • Spider-Man by Toy Biz 1995
  • Swamp Thing by Kenner


We hope to expand it to other toy series soon.

V.E.R.N. is not the smartest robot on the block and is easily distracted. For best results follow these instructions when taking the photograph.
  1. Get a few pieces of white printer paper.
  2. Lay the figure down on its back in the center of the paper.
  3. Put its joints in their natural pose.
  4. Zoom in so that only the figure and the white background are visible.

The following is an example of an acceptable photograph.



Here are some things to avoid.
  1. Do not take a picture of several figures.



  2. Do not include any accessories or weapons on the picture.



  3. Do not cast a shadow on the figure.



  4. Do not stand the figure in front of the paper.



  5. Do not take a picture of the figure from an off-center angle.

V.E.R.N. will launch automatically once the picture is uploaded. You may be prompted to log in several times. This is normal.
